“In this lesson we return to our discussion of Hebrew verbs. As with the Qatal and Yiqtol forms, we have named this third verb pattern “Wayyiqtol” after the 3ms form of the verb (וַיִּקְטֹל).
We look for Wayyiqtol in 1 Kings 21:8
וַתִּכְתֹּב סְפָרִים בְּשֵׁם אַחְאָב וַתַּחְתֹּם בְּחֹתָמוֹ וַתִּשְׁלַח )הַסְפָרִים( ]סְפָרִים[ אֶל־הַזְקֵנִים וְאֶל־הַֽחֹרִים אֲשֶׁר בְּעִירוֹ הַיֹּשְׁבִים אֶת־נָבֽוֹת׃
So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who lived in the same town with Naboth.
Queen Jezebel plots to have Naboth killed, so that her husband, Ahab, can claim Naboth’s vineyard.
We see that the “Wayyiqtol” is the main narrative tense here.
